Creating Excellence provides practical assistance in
support of good design and effective community engagement to make better places
and communities. CE operates throughout the South West of England, from
Gloucestershire to Cornwall.
CE runs the Creating Excellence South West Design Review
Panel which it created in 2005 to raise design standards in architecture and
the built environment by giving guidance on major schemes at proposal stage. It
also runs the CE Housing Excellence Design Panel that offers design review and
Building for Life Design Support, particularly useful to support masterplan
preparation and reserved matters applications.
As part of the Design Network, CE has been awarded
funding to focus efforts on increasing the skills and learning of councillors,
planning officers and communities in improving design quality and delivery
CE has recently undertaken the Sid Valley
Neighbourhood Plan Place Analysis. CE has been the regional hub for empowerment and engagement work, initiating Funding
South West, and the South West Localism Group.
CE was set up in 2004 as the region’s centre of
excellence on regeneration, funded by the South West Regional Development
Agency. Now independent, it has adapted and continues to adapt. It is a social
enterprise and a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.
